I am happy to say that my book is really starting to come together. In the last few weeks I have gotten my interview with Bonnie Raitt. I waited 2 1/2 years for that one and now I know the rest is gravy. There are only about twenty more interview that I really want to get finished and by that time I should be at about one hundred all together. I have hired a personal assistant to help with administration and research and a young journalism grad, Elizabeth Howell, to edit my chapters and get the book ready for shopping to literary agents.
I know I could have shopped this book a long time ago but until now I didn't want anyone else involved with it. It has been very important to me that the process of interviewing and writing keep it's integrity and since I am new at this literary game I have been very protective of the message of this book and of the women who I have spoken with. I am also considering self publishing as an option.
I went on the road to Europe about a week or so ago and I decided to print out some chapters and bring them with me. I was so blown away to actually hold a manuscript in my hand. For the last seven years I have only worked on my computer with my various files strewn everywhere and though I knew I was writing a book it never felt like one until I held it. It's a large manuscript and there are so many great players to document that it could easily be twice the size it is now and I still wouldn't be finished. I know I could work another five to ten years on this and still miss someone but I am determined to get it finished this year.
And I am closer than I thought.
